Matinée Multilingual & Articulate 360 Suite

By Tom Aurelius

With the rise of hybrid and remote working, more and more companies are turning to online learning to help train staff in various areas.

Here at Matinée, Articulate 360 authoring tools are our first choice when it comes to eLearning course development. Storyline and Rise are two of our favourite tools included within the Articulate suite for developing interactive and informative eLearning courses for our clients.

Our in-house engineers have gained invaluable experience in pushing the limits of these tools, and as a result, we can now create and provide eLearning experiences that are both aesthetically pleasing and highly effective.

What is Articulate Storyline?

Articulate Storyline is the most recent version of Articulate’s authoring tool for creating interactive courses. Courses created with Storyline are automatically optimized for the majority of devices, thanks to the latest version’s improved responsiveness and mobile friendliness. By selecting from a collection of slide templates and individually modifying them with interactions, variables, and assets, users are able manually create a custom course using this application.

There are many slide templates available within Articulate 360; dials, sliders, hotspots, and a ton of additional variables that can all be used to build interesting interactions. Additional visual learning tools are also available; these include video, screencasts, and simulations.

The user experience with Storyline is very interactive and captivating as a result of such features. On almost every slide, learners will be clicking, dragging, and dropping to their hearts content. To create scenario-based experiences, users of Storyline can also leverage the platform’s character library or collaborate with an illustrator to import bespoke customised content. However; Storyline courses are linear, slide-by-slide PowerPoint presentations, which means lengthier seat durations and more limited navigation for learners.

What is Rise 360?

Rise 360 is a web-based, responsive authoring tool for building component-based courses. It is promoted by Articulate as a faster authoring option to Storyline, but it offers much more than just that. Rise appears and behaves entirely different to Storyline; it uses components to organise course material, which in turn allows the user to arrange multimedia content into pre-made, editable blocks.

Since Rise is entirely responsive and mobile-friendly, users may access the course on any device—a laptop, tablet, or smartphone—without the need for further development. Rise is web-based, so users are able to create courses online without the need to download any software or tools. The platform also supports high output, which is perfect for clients with complex training requirements.

Rise also offers Storyline 360 integration, so users can easily add a Storyline module to your Rise course, in order to make use of the best of both worlds if there is something Rise cannot accomplish.

Additionally; included within an Articulate 360 membership is Articulate Review, a web-based project review tool that makes it simple for clients and/or linguists to collaborate. This tool is extremely handy for both Rise and Storyline, as it increases the effectiveness of project reviews by consolidating feedback in one place, so that subject-matter experts can then examine and offer context-specific recommendations throughout the creating process.

AI Capability

Articulate suite is constantly being updated with new features in order for users to develop their eLearning courses further. Recently, Articulate have enabled the use of AI tools within Storyline, such as ChatGPT, which opens up a whole new world to help refine designs and development of eLearning modules.

This also opens the door to the use of AI voiceovers within courses. Articulate offer a text-to-speech feature, allowing courses to be narrated in a short amount of time, ready for linguist feedback or to be localised into multiple languages.

The AI voiceovers within Articulate are completely customizable, so each voice and language can be picked to ensure that every word is pronounced correctly and efficiently. Users may also use different voices for different segments, which is really helpful when building a scene in which two or more characters are conversing with one another.

Custom Voiceovers

In terms of voiceovers; AI is not for everybody, however this is not the only option within Articulate suite. Custom voiceovers are also capable of being implemented in to eLearning courses, meaning specific voice artists can be picked by clients to record for each module.

We have a vast database of voice artists here at Matinée; many of whom have great experience in recording for eLearning courses. Our project management team can supply an array of demos that meet the needs of a client, and organise for them to record the material required in order to captivate a course’s audience. Our engineers will then edit this audio and apply the voiceover to the course within Storyline, perfectly in sync and ready to be heard by learners.

Matinée’s work with Articulate 360

Matinée have recently completed just such a multi-language project for a client in Rise360. The client had already created the course in English, however they wanted to be able to deliver training to many other regions. Matinée assisted with translation into 14 different languages and creating the versions that would be uploaded to their learning platform.

If you have a Learning Management System in place, you can track learners progress, as both pieces of software can export courses in a variety of industry standard formats. However Articulate Storyline can also export content in a standalone format, if required.

Matinée have also recently delivered a 5-module Articulate Storyline project in 16 languages on Diversity and Inclusion for a worldwide company.

As above, the course had been created in English and Matinée assisted with translating the content into the required languages. Included within the courses were animated characters that required lip-synching with the localised content.

Matinée used a specialist piece of software to create these videos which were then added into the localised course along with audio clips and subtitled videos.
