This is Cummins – Portuguese Closed Captions (subtitles)

Cummins required a subtitling (closed captions) company to assist them with Portuguese subtitling services for their “This is Cummins” promotional video, determining who they are and the future of their business to their customers.

Matinée transcribed the English audio as heard in the original video and then, with the help of our professional Portuguese linguists, we produced the Portuguese translationss. Once the translations were complete, we then sent these on to our client to approve, in order to make sure that they were happy with them.

As soon as our client had approved the translated version of the English transcription, our in-house engineers then synced the Portuguese subtitles to the video and burnt these in to a .mov video file. For this particular video, we also produced the Turkish, Brazilian Portuguese, Arabic, and French subtitles, following the same process.

Matinée Multilingual has done an outstanding job sourcing voice talent and recording voiceovers for 20 language versions of an animated health education video. I’ve particularly appreciated their persistence in identifying voice actors for some less common languages (Rohingya, Karen, Khmer) that they originally thought they would not be able to deliver. English to Portuguese subtitling service

Portuguese is a romance language like French and Spanish. It is the official language of Portugal, Brazil, Cape Verde, Sao Tome, Principe, Guinea-Bissau, Angola and Mozambique.

Three countries have Portuguese as a co-official language and these are East Timor, Macau and Equatorial New Guinea. You’ll also hear the language in Diu in India, on the east coast of Sri Lanka and in Malacca in Malaysia.

The language originated in the Kingdom of Galicia and is spoken by around 250 million speakers. San Paulo in Brazil has the greatest number of Portuguese speakers in the world. In the city you can visit the Museum of the Portuguese Language which was opened in 2006.

The Portuguese language became official in 1290, when King Denis opened the first Portuguese university and changed the language name from ‘Common Language’ to Portuguese. During the 15th and 16th centuries Portugal colonised many countries and the language was used in Asia and Africa.

European Portuguese has around ten dialects and in Brazil there are sixteen. The differences are mainly in accent and vocabulary. The vocabulary of European Portuguese contains Arabic words, which came about as a result of the Moorish conquest of Iberia.
