Albanian Accent Voice-Over Recording Services

Voice over artist recording foreign accent

Voice-over recording in foreign accents is becoming increasingly popular, as it becomes important to access markets overseas. To speak to, and identify with English speakers from countries abroad, it is far better to speak in their accent or dialect.

Many of our foreign voice artists speak perfect English but usually with the accent of their homeland. This gives us a rich source of foreign accent voice talent, when customers ask for English read in a foreign accent. Please contact our talent management team for help with voice-over recordings in English, but read with a foreign accent.

Simply send us the script and we’ll record it, either wild or to picture. We’ll deliver your edited audio files back to you within just a few days, via FTP, and in any file format you require.

Working with translation and production companies

Adding audio visual services to your mix will create many new sales opportunities for your team. We can add translation, voiceover and subtitling to your company’s offering, which will appear seamless to your clients and yet mesh easily with the processes in your own departments.

Matinée has over 40 years of experience working alongside translation and production companies. So you can be sure our project managers are fully at home with the technical process of supervising and delivering localised material, in a professional and timely manner.

English in Albanian accent voice-over agency

Origins of the Albanian language and accent

Albania was under Roman rule until the 7th century and then in the 9th century it was ruled by Bulgaria. As a consequence of its Latin influence, there are many loan words from Latin in the Albanian language.

Albanian is said to be a natural language, with no descendants from other languages and it also has a distinct vocabulary. It does however share two features with the Balto-Slavic languages. These are the lengthening of the consonants and the endings of long syllables. Some linguists believe that the Albanian language is linked with Greek and Armenian.

The Albanian language is thought to have come from people who lived in the mountains, rather than on the coast. This is because the words in Albanian for plants and animals are original, whilst the words for agricultural and coastal activities are not.

Albanians were said to have settled originally around the area of the Mat river in northern Albania and then they gradually moved south to the Sckumbar river. This is where today’s Albanian dialect is divided. The two main dialects are Tosk which is spoken south of the river Shkumbar and Gheg, which is spoken north of the river Shkumbar. Tosk and Gheg can be mutually understood, but there are differences in the pronunciation and spelling. For instance, Tosk doesn’t use long, nasal vowels that are present in Gheg. Standard Albanian is based on the Tosk dialect and this is what is used for official purposes. It is the official language of Albania, Kosovo and parts of Montenegro.

Many people who hear the Albanian accent think it sounds like Turkish or Romanian. It doesn’t have the hard sounds that many Slavic languages have, in fact it is a softly spoken language. Its vocabulary has loan words from several different languages including Greek, Turkish, South Slavic, Italian and English. The language itself also has features from other Balkan countries including Bulgarian, Romanian, Macedonian. If you want to hear English spoken with an Albanian accent, check out singer, Bleona on this You Tube Video. You can hear her Albanian accent whilst she is talking to the American interviewers.

Using the translations and screenshots provided by Lionbridge, Matinée cast and recorded a native female voice artist in over 37 languages, and then edited and re-timed the After Effects animations to match the length of the foreign voice tracks.

These videos are now viewed worldwide in over 55 international markets.

Frequently Asked Questions For Voice-Over

What types of voice-over can you produce? +

If it speaks – we can record it!

We can record all types of voice-over, for all types of projects including: documentary, e-Learning and training, corporate, advertising, telephone messaging and IVR, computer games and broadcast.

What is the difference between recording ‘wild’ and recording to picture? +

There are six different ways of recording voice-over for video projects:

  • wild voice-over narration – not recorded to picture and with no timing constraints
  • time-synced voice-over narration – recorded to picture
  • UN Style voice-over
  • recorded to picture
  • phrase-sync dubbing – the phrase is in sync with the mouth movements, but not exact
  • lip-sync dubbing – the most complex option where the mouth movements are exactly synced to the audio.

The method you choose is a matter of budget, taste, and the audience’s preferences.

What is the difference between ‘wild’ and time-sync (STC) voice-over? +

A WILD recording is where the script is read aloud by the voice artist at a natural pace. If the voice-over is being recorded WILD, there is no way to know its length, so any visuals within the video, animation or presentation will have to be edited to fit the timings of the voice-over. This could be very difficult and time-consuming if the editor does not understand the language involved.  In this case some preparatory work may be required to the scripts, to make it clear where transitions in the visuals take place.

Recording to strict time constraints (STC), is when the voice-over is recorded to picture, to ensure it synchronises to the the original audio of the video. This ensures that what is being said, matches the correct section of the video. Recording to STC takes about twice as long as a WILD recording, because the voice artist will have to retake sections to get the audio timed correctly to the video.

What is “UN Style” voice-over? +

The original speaker can still be heard in the background so that the audience is aware that the translated voice-over is acting as an interpretation of what is being said.

A UN Style voice-over, is a perfect fit for films with a serious subject matter, and it’s often used in documentaries and in news broadcast, where interviews are conducted on camera, in a language the target audience does not understand.

What is phrase sync and lip-sync dubbing? +

The actors’ voices are replaced (dubbed) with those of foreign actors. Lip-sync dubbing is commonly used in video games, animations, and films, as well as corporate dramas and e-learning video.

Lip syncing requires extensive preparatory work to adapt the scripts to fit with the actor’s lip movements. Producing a lip-sync recording is a time consuming process, and it can take considerably longer than a standard voice-over to produce.

Western cinema goers generally prefer subtitles or closed captions instead of lip-sync dubbing, but lip-syncing is preferred by many other cultures, particularly if the literacy of the audience is low.

Phrase-sync dubbing is similar to lip-sync, but the new voice-over is not matched to lip movements, it’s simply matched phrase by phrase, so it is not as costly to produce as lip-sync.

How quickly can I get a voice-over recorded? +

This is primarily dependent on the availability of the selected voice artist. We have two recording studios so we can schedule projects at short notice.  Usually we can turn-around urgent projects in just 24 hours. Most projects will require two to three days to schedule, record and edit.

How will the voice-over recording be delivered to me? +

We can deliver the audio as a raw, unedited file, or we can clean, edit, name and deliver the audio in any format and resolution you require.

We can also re-integrate the audio back into the video, and encode the final video in any video file format and resolution you require.

To learn more about how we clean and edit our voice-over recordings, and why it makes for better sounding voice files, watch our video here.

Are your foreign voice artists all native speaking? +

Yes, we only ever work with voices native to the country or region required.

Can I direct the recording? +

Yes, we welcome clients to our studio, where you can direct the recording in person. You can also direct the session over the phone or by using Zoom or Skype if preferred.

What are usage fees? +

Usage fees (also sometimes called “buy-out” fees) are an additional fee payable to a voice artist for the use of their voice in TV, Radio, Website, in-flight or Cinema broadcast; Museums, Events, Exhibitions & in-stores; or video game, DVD, Film or a sell-through product. Every union has their own guidelines on usage rates. Typically we recommend allowing 100% of the voice artist recording fee for usage in your budget, but this is a guideline only and the actual cost is often dependent on the voice talent selected, and exact details of the usage. For more information about usage fees, take a look at this blog post.

We (Westhill Communications) recently worked with Matinee Multilingual on a Portuguese voiceover recording for an animation, and the experience was nothing short of amazing. They came recommended by a colleague, and it’s easy to see why. Even with our modest budget, they went above and beyond to deliver a result that blew us away.
Kayleigh, who managed our project, was an absolute star. She was so friendly and professional, always keeping us in the loop without overwhelming us with too much information. We got regular updates, a great selection of voiceover artists to choose from, and all the key details we needed, it was just the right balance of communication.
The whole process was smooth, easy, and completely stress-free. Honestly, we couldn’t have asked for better service. If you need translations, editing, or voiceover recordings, we’d recommend Matinee in a heartbeat. Huge thanks to Kayleigh and the team for doing such a brilliant job!

Matinée Multilingual has done an outstanding job sourcing voice talent and recording voiceovers for 20 language versions of an animated health education video. I’ve particularly appreciated their persistence in identifying voice actors for some less common languages (Rohingya, Karen, Khmer) that they originally thought they would not be able to deliver. They have been responsive, flexible, patient throughout a long process. And most importantly, Matinée has consistently provided top quality voice recordings. I would not hesitate to work with Matinée again on future projects.

They delivered on time after we had changed our requirements and the quality of the narrations we asked for was exceptional in both English and Cymraeg. If we have future audio recording needs we would ask for their services again.
